Like many a good idea, OFFCUTS art exhibition was the lovechild of a mistake and a lemonade making attitude. "The boys cut a whole lot of stuff for a big job but got the size wrong," says Don. "We ended up with heaps of 20 by 20cm frames." So they distributed the bit sized canvases to local artist friends, had a party and sold them to raise money for local charities. Now in its ninth year, it's the mistake that keeps giving.

Every year we host the OFFCUTS Show, which as the name suggests is a show created from the offcut canvas and stretcher bars from the previous year. These mini canvases are distributed to local artists with proceeds from the sale of works being donated to charity.

One day we made a big mistake – the boys cut a whole lot of stuff for a really big job. I came in and said “What are they?” and they said “Oh, that is for so-and-so” and I said “They are the wrong size!” and the boys went all sheepish and said “Oh, shit!” and then they went back and checked and we ended up with all these 200mm long offcuts – hundreds of them.
